As traditional rulers, we are not merely custodians of culture; we are bridges — connecting our people to progress, balancing ancient wisdom with modern governance. We offer guidance rooted in experience, integrity, and empathy. Our duty extends beyond our palaces and ceremonies; it reaches into conflict resolution, youth empowerment, and the preservation of communal peace.
In the Niger Delta, traditional institutions have often been the heartbeat of stability. Long before political boundaries existed, our councils of elders upheld justice, fairness, and collective welfare. Even now, when policies are written in offices far away, it is within our domains that these decisions truly find meaning — where the impact of governance is felt in daily lives.
Modern governance thrives when it recognizes the wisdom of the traditional institution. A partnership between the crown and the council, the king and the people, creates a harmony that drives development. For this reason, leaders at all levels must work together — respecting each other’s mandates, yet sharing one vision: the wellbeing of the people.
